Happy Birthday, Hungry Caterpillar! Love, me and Google

Google is my search engine of choice and I absolutely love watching as the logos change to celebrate holidays, seasons, birthdays and events. I was so happy this morning to open my internet and see this:

A tribute to Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar (40 years old today), a beautiful picture book loved by me [...]

This weekend’s read: The Road

I read Cormac McCarthy’s The Road yesterday (it was that good) and wish I had savored, instead of devoured, the story so that I would have something to read today. The Road is one of those books where, once finished, leaves you at a loss for what to read next. You need time to reflect on your [...]

I read William P. Young’s The Shack yesterday at the request of my mom, who is reading it for her book club. I only continued reading because she wanted to discuss it.
The novel is about Mack, a father struggling under ‘The Great Sadness’ after his young daughter Missy is abducted and murdered on a camping trip. [...]

Quote of the Day

“When I examine myself and my methods of thought, I come to the conclusion that the gift of fantasy has meant more to me than any talent for abstract, positive thinking.”

Hear Toni Morrison read from and discuss new novel, ‘A Mercy’

Apparently I’m not up on my author news – Toni Morrison has a new book coming out on Nov. 11! I caught part of an interview with Morrison on NPR about A Mercy. She talked briefly about the decision behind the title (trying to find the exact fit, that wasn’t Mercy, Compassion, or Grace), and how she [...]

Hear Marilynne Robinson read from ‘Home’

A couple weeks ago I went to a public reading from Marilynne Robinson on her new novel, Home. I ran into and sat with a couple of colleagues from a literary press that I interned with a few years ago, making the anticipated night even more fun. The reading was wonderful. There’s something magical about [...]
