J.D. Salinger, author of The Catcher in the Rye, dies

January 29, 2010

Sad news in the literary world yesterday – J.D. Salinger died at age 91. He was perhaps best known for this book:

The Catcher in the Rye, famous for capturing the voice of adolescence in Holden Caulfield, never meant much to me – perhaps I wasn’t angst-y enough in middle school or whenever I read it? – but we are reading it in one of my classes in a few weeks and I’m looking forward to getting more out of it this time around.

Here is a NYT article about Salinger and his work.

What sad news, I didn’t know. This is one of my books that has been on my TBR list for a while now, I think I will have to bump it up to the top.
